Biography

Dr. Gerald Friedman is a renowned Professor and Director of the Department of Economics Undergraduate Program at UMass Amherst. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Economics and History from Columbia University (Magna Cum Laude) and received his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University. Dr. Friedman gained national notoriety during the 2016 U.S. Presidential election upon writing an analysis of Democratic Party candidate Bernie Sanders’ campaign policies which concluded Sanders’ policies would produce significant economic growth in the U.S., if enacted. Dr. Friedman has drafted single-payer health care system financing plans for the states of Maryland, Massachusetts, Washington and the United States.

He is also the author of numerous books and publications on economic history, labor history and alternative economic theories.
